Writing Without Thinking 1 by *EvaMonkey:iconEvaMonkey:

Artists have it better in general.

They create and their art can be appreciated almost immediately, I'm not saying that they have it easy, God knows that I've seen artists struggle with their muse, with their ideas and with themselves when it comes to creating a piece that they can be truly proud of.
I mean artists have it better in terms of the reception they get, people look at what they made and are responsive straight away, if it's good they will get almost instantaneous praise and applause, if it's bad then the critic will let them know there and then.

Writers on the other hand...

When someone writes something, they write it knowing that the majority of people will turn off straight away, that most people will just not have the time to sit still for who knows how long and read a story, the praise and/or criticism could take a while before it gets to the creator depending on how long the piece of work is.

Artists attack the eyes with information, they create worlds that can be seen and recognised, they create people who's lives can be traced back with the briefest glance and most importantly, they create their fantasy for others to see and feel.

Writers try to make people think and it's hit or miss, they are trying to create characters that the person will never see, worlds that will only be witnessed in a minds eye, they literally have to spell out the emotion of a character and hope it translates to the reader rather then have the viewer feel it for themselves.

I'm proud to class myself as a "wanna-be" writer, I try my best to create a world thats believeable and yet utterly ridiculous, but in a world of "tl;dr" (too long, didn't read) it gets harder and harder to make a stranger stick around.

Artists, painters, drawers and tracers will always be the super-cool kids in the playground of the arts.

Writers, will most likely be the kids leaning against the wall, staring out into that bustling black-top saying "I wish I was like them".

These are my own thoughts and feeling about the world, they are based on what I think and come with no other study then what I think and see.
If you disagree then I'm not going to stop you.

Writing without Thinking 1
Writers Vs Artists.

A new little exercise iv'e whipped up for myself, when ever I have a thought that I think is important, I'm going to write it down and then continue to write it and make sense of it.

Consider it a stream of conciousness but without the jumping about.

...or think of it as a blog but less pretentious (thats a joke all you bloggers out there)

I think your forgetting writing is an Art.
:iconevamonkey:
I remember that writing is an art, I just don't think it's an as quickly appreciated art as say, seeing a painting or a drawing or hearing a song.

My main point is that almost everyone will look at a picture and enjoy it or hate it because it doesn't take as much effort to look at. They can view it or take a glance at it and ponder it for a good long while.

To make people appreciate something that written takes longer, they need to set time apart in their schedule to read something if it's, say, longer then say 500 words.

For example, I, personaly, have just finished reading a book that I enjoyed very much, but it took over 6 hours to do so and the determination to start reading it... and I only really got how good it was at the end of it.
Where as I've seen paintings and drawing and known within the first few seconds that they were amazing and were inspired by such beauty of the artists surroundings or by the emotions the artist felt at the time of creating.

I'm not knocking painters, drawers, or writers or any kind of artist.

I'm just saying that the written word takes longer to appreciate, and that people (critics and the like) have to take longer out of their lives then they might like to.

I just find it sad that the majority of people would rather "Too Long, Didn't Read" something, rather then reading it and taking something with them.

But on the other hand, if you are talking about the sub-heading of "Writers Vs Artists"... I just needed to lump a certain kind of artist together, and when most people think of art they think of paintings and drawings before they think of writing.
I wasn't trying to be insulting about that, just simplistic.
